Site Name: Old Tewantin Road - Part of Trail 4 of Noosa Trail Network.
Address: Old Tewantin Road, Cooroy.
Directions: From Cooroy take Elm Street. Turn right at the primary school into Lake Macdonald Drive. Pass the Botanical Gardens, Lake Macdonald and spillway all on the right. At the next T intersection, turn right into old Tewantin Road. Proceed to the end of the road. The last section, past several properties, is a gravel surface.
Description: This is a short section of Noosa Trail Network through rainforest, crossing part of Ringtail Creek. Return the same way. Palm trees, ferns, lomandra, and grand old eucalyptus, grace this site. Back in the 1800's this was the road from Noosa to Gympie. Heritage signs now tell of the difficulties encountered trying to cross the creek and traverse rough terrain with horse and buggy.
Birds: Pheasant Coucal, Yellow-tailed Black-Cockatoo, Australian King Parrot, Rufous Fantail. A full list of the birds recorded from this site is available within the Noosa Bird Trail bird species checklist here.
Signage: Follow Noosa Trail Network 'Trail 4' signs.
Parking: Parking at the start of the track.
Condition: Suitable for most levels of fitness. Parts of the track are a little rocky.
Facilities: None on site. Toilets and picnic areas at nearby Lake Macdonald.
